Eli Manning’s Retirement

Eli Manning officially declared his retirement on January 24, 2020. The 39-year old quarterback won 2 Super Bowls and 2 Super Bowl MVPs. The decision seemed likely after Manning was benched for rookie quarterback Daniel Jones. Manning’s press conference was exactly what was expected. A cool, calm, and classy guy being incredibly thankful while cracking a few jokes. One of those jokes was when he was asked about quarterback Tom Brady. Manning said that he and Tom had joked about the two super bowls, but Tom did find the jokes very funny. Manning played 16 years with the New York Football Giants, and with two Super Bowls, there is a huge debate on whether or not Manning is a Hall Of Famer. While Eli Manning is a two time Super Bowl MVP, he only had 5 double-digit win seasons. I do not know whether Eli will make the Hall of Fame. I think he will make it because of the two Super Bowls and him being Peyton’s little brother, but I don’t think he will be a first ballot Hall of Famer. Colin Cowherd said that Eli would make the Hall because you can not write the History of the NFL without Eli Manning. I understand his point, but for me, those two Super Bowls were memorable for the two incredible catches. I agree with the statement Skip Bayless made saying that he is in the “Hall of Very Good.” Either way, Eli Manning was a memorable player in the NFL, and now that he has retired, next season will be the first season in 21 years that a Manning is not in the NFL. The future is unclear for Eli. Will he be a Hall of Famer? Will he be a First-Ballot Hall of Famer? Only time can answer these questions. One thing is for sure Eli Manning has had a very memorable career. I wish him the best in the next phase in his life.
