Anthony Davis has been playing like an MVP this season. Davis is averaging 27.1 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 3.2 assists. The Lakers seem to be ready to make a postseason run with Davis and Lebron at the helm. In Tuesday night’s win versus the New York Knicks, Davis went down with an injury. The good news for Lakers fans is that Davis had an MRI done that came back clean. Davis will miss a couple of games, but I think it is a blessing in disguise. It is always sad when a player gets hurt, but Davis’ injury is not long term. Davis could get some much-needed rest to be ready for the playoffs. This might hurt is season accolade collection, but could help the team make a deeper playoff run. The Lakers could rest Davis for most of the games until the All-Star Break. Davis’ injury could prove to help the Lakers in the playoffs. While the number one seed is important, the Lakers have a relatively easy schedule until the All-Star Break. Davis should only play in games where it is absolutely necessary for the Lakers to win. The Lakers can still hold the number one seed if they lose 3 games, and if they lose every game where they have real competition they will lose 6. In those six games, Davis should play, although it is highly unlikely for the Lakers to lose all 6. The Lakers need to be smart going into the All-Star Break with Anthony Davis, and his playing time.
